The Junín Province is located in the west of the Junín administrative region in central Peru , 150 km east-northeast of the state capital Lima . The province is 2360 km². The provincial capital is the homonymous city of Junín , 130 km northwest of the regional capital Huancayo .
Geographical location
The Junín Province is located on the southern shore of Lake Junín . It has a length of almost 100 km in the WSW-ONO direction. In the southwest of the province lies the Andes highlands. The upper reaches of the Río Mantaro runs along the western provincial border. The mountains of the Central Cordillera rise in the northeast of the province . The province extends there to the middle reaches of the Río Paucartambo .
In the south the province of Junín borders on the provinces of Yauli and Tarma , in the north on the province of Pasco , which belongs to the administrative region of Pasco .
