The district of Ondores is located in the Junín Province in the Junín Region in central Peru . The district was established on November 27, 1944. It has an area of 289 km². The 2017 census counted 1276 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4035, in 2007 it was 2571. The seat of the district administration is the village of Ondores with 586 inhabitants located at an altitude of 4100 m near the south-western shore of Lake Junín (as of 2017). Ondores is located 18 km northwest of the provincial capital Junín .
Geographical location
The district of Ondores is located in the Andean highlands on the southwestern shore of Lake Junín in the northwest of the Junín province.
The Ondores district borders on the Junín district in the south, the Santa Bárbara de Carhuacayán ( Yauli province ) in the southwest, the Huayllay district in the west and the Vicco district in the far northwest (the last two districts are in the Pasco province ).
