Junín is the capital of the province of the same name in the administrative region of Junín in central Peru, which is also named after it . The population was 9,755 in 2017. 10 years earlier the population was 9,974.

Geographical location

The city is located at an altitude of 4107  m in a basin landscape on the western flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . Junín Lake is just under 12 km to the northwest .
