Alnaberget burial ground

The Alnaberget Ship Settlement

The Alnaberget burial ground is northeast of Smedstorp in Tomelilla in Skåne , Sweden .

The investigated and restored burial ground measures around 140 × 20 m and consists of nine elements. Five are round and three oval stone settings and one is the remainder of a ship setting .

The round stone settings have a diameter of 5.0 to 11.0 m, the stones are 0.15 to 0.4 m high. The filling consists of pebbles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.2 m. The oval stone settings have lengths from 7.0 to 8.5 m and widths from 5.0 to 6.0 m. Your stones are 0.15 m high. The filling consists of pebbles with a diameter of 0.1 to 0.2 m.

The approximately 10 × 15 m ship settlement from the Alnaberget consists of four residual stones. The stones are 0.8 to 1.2 m high, 0.7 to 1.2 m wide and 0.5 to 0.6 m thick.

The burial ground was excavated and restored by B. Stjernquist. The stone circles come from the Iron Age (around the turn of the times) and the ship setting from the Vendel period .

There are three other ships in the vicinity.

Legend

It is said that a King Alne is said to be buried here. Nearby is the smaller hill “ Gyaberg ” and Alne's wife Gya is said to be buried in the local ship settingGya kärr ”.
