The Masma district is located in the Jauja Province in the Junín region in central western Peru . The district was established on October 2, 1916. It has an area of ​​14.5 km². At the 2017 census there were 1,851 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 2413, in 2007 2229. The administrative center is the 3344  m high village of Masma with 718 inhabitants (as of 2017). Masma is located 8 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Jauja .

Geographical location

The Masma District is centrally located in the Jauja Province. It is located in the Andean highlands about 3 km east of the Río Mantaro, which flows to the southeast . The Río Masma, a tributary of the Río Yácuy, crosses the district initially in a westerly direction and later in a northerly direction.

The district of Masma borders in the southwest on the district Ataura , in the west on the district Huertas , in the north on the district Julcán and in the east and southeast on the district Huamalí .
