The Huachocolpa district is located in the Tayacaja Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 31, 1951. It has an area of ​​266 km². The 2017 census counted 3387 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2981, in 2007 it was 4976. The district administration is located in the 2907  m high village of Huachocolpa with 994 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huachocolpa is located 49 km northeast of the provincial capital Pampas .

Geographical location

The Huachocolpa district is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the northeast of the Tayacaja Province. The district is located on the right bank of the east-flowing Río Mantaro.

The Huachocolpa district borders in the southwest with the district Surcubamba , in the north with the districts Pariahuanca and Santo Domingo de Acobamba (both in the province Huancayo ), in the northeast with the district Pangoa ( province Satipo ) and in the southeast with the district Tintay Puncu .
