The Pampas district is located in the Tayacaja province of the Huancavelica region in central Peru . The district has an area of 74.6 km². At the 2017 census, there were 10,061 residents in the district. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Pampas at an altitude of 3276 m with 7839 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pampas is located about 50 km southeast of the city of Huancayo . On May 29, 2016, the newly established Santiago de Tucuma district in the north was separated from the Pampas district.
Geographical location
The Pampas District is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the northeast of the Tayacaja Province. The lower reaches of the Río Mantaro flows north along the eastern district boundary.
The Pampas district borders in the west on the Ahuaycha district , in the north on the Santiago de Tucuma district, in the northeast on the Daniel Hernández district , in the southeast on the Quichuas district and in the south on the Acoria district .
