The Pilchaca District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was founded on August 16, 1920. It has an area of ​​39.7 km². The 2017 census counted 524 residents. In 1993 the population was 876, in 2007 it was 626. The seat of the district administration is the 3584  m high village of Pilchaca with 356 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pilchaca is located 44 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Pilchaca district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the far north of the Huancavelica province. The district is located on the right bank of the east-flowing Río Mantaro below the confluence of the Río Vilca .

The Pilchaca district is bordered on the southwest by the district Moya , in the north to the districts Ñahuimpuquio and Acostambo (both in the province of Tayacaja ) and to the east and the southeast by the district Cuenca .
