The Nuevo Occoro District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on May 10, 1955. It has an area of ​​246 km². The 2017 census counted 1805 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2,201, in 2007 it was 2536. The district administration is based in the 3825  m high village of Nuevo Occoro with 532 inhabitants (as of 2017). Nuevo Occoro is located 22 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Nuevo Occoro district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the central west of the Huancavelica province. The southwest of the district is drained via the Río Santo, the right source of the Río VIlca . The northeast of the district is drained by the Río Alauma.

The Nuevo Occoro district borders in the southwest on the Acobambilla district , in the northwest on the Manta and Laria districts , in the northeast on the Huando district and in the southeast and south on the Ascensión district .
