The Huayllahuara District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 12, 1942. It has an area of ​​36.4 km². The 2017 census counted 690 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1230, in 2007 it was 907. The district administration is located in the 3896  m high village of Huayllahuara with 491 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayllahuara is located 47.5 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Huayllahuara district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the far north of the Huancavelica province. The Río Vilca and its left tributary Quebrada Canipaco limit the district to the east and northeast.

The district of Huayllahuara borders in the west on the district Chacapampa , in the northwest on the district Carhuacallanga and in the northeast on the district Colca (all three districts mentioned above belong to the province Huancayo ), in the east on the district Moya and in the south on the district Vilca .
