The Moya district is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district has an area of ​​94.5 km². The 2017 census counted 1031 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1852, in 2007 it was 2272. The seat of the district administration is the 3896  m high village of Moya with 385 inhabitants (as of 2017). Moya is located 45 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Moya district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the north of the Huancavelica province. The Río Vilca flows along the western district boundary in a north-northeast direction and flows into the Río Mantaro in the far north of the district .

The Moya district borders on the Manta district in the southwest, the Vilca and Huayllahuara districts in the west, the Colca district ( Huancayo province ) in the far northwest, the Pilchaca district in the northeast , the Cuenca and Conayca districts in the east and the southeast to the Laria district .
