The Palca District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was founded on June 8, 1959. It has an area of ​​80.9 km². The 2017 census counted 2094 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3806, in 2007 it was 3467. The district administration is seated in the 3527  m high village of Palca with 663 inhabitants (as of 2017). Palca is located 14.5 km north of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Palca district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the center of the Huancavelica province. The longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction is 13.5 km, the maximum width is 9 km. The Río Pallca, a left tributary of the Río Ichu , crosses the district in a northeastern direction.

The Palca district is bordered to the south by the district Ascensión , in the west and the north by the district Huando , on the east by the district Acoria and in the extreme southeast of the district of Huancavelica .
