The Huancavelica Province is one of seven provinces in the Huancavelica Region in southwestern Peru . The province has an area of 4216 km². At the 2017 census, 120,699 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 114,822, in 2007 142,723. The provincial administration is located in the city of Huancavelica .
Geographical location
The province of Huancavelica is located about 210 km east-southeast of the state capital Lima . It extends over the Andean highlands . In the west lies the Peruvian Western Cordillera , in the east the Central Cordillera . The province has a longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONO direction of 80 km. The Río Ichu , a right tributary of the Río Mantaro , flows through the province in a predominantly northeastern direction.
The province of Huancavelica borders in the northwest on the provinces of Yauyos ( Lima region ) and Huancayo ( Junín region ), in the northeast on the province of Tayacaja , in the east on the provinces Acobamba and Angaraes , in the south on the province Huaytará and in the southwest on the province Castrovirreyna .
Administrative division
The province of Huancavelica is divided into 19 districts (distritos) . The Huancavelica district is the seat of the provincial administration.
