The Conayca district is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 5, 1923. It has an area of ​​41.4 km². The 2017 census counted 898 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1476, in 2007 it was 1323. The district administration is located in the 3682  m high town of Conayca with 687 inhabitants (as of 2017). Conayca is located 30 km north of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The district of Conayca is located in the arid Andean highlands in the north of the province of Huancavelica. The Río Alauma flows along the southern and eastern district borders and drains the area to the Río Mantaro, which flows further north .

The district of Conayca borders in the south and southwest on the district Laria , in the far west on the district Moya , in the northwest on the district Cuenca , in the northeast on the district Izcuchaca and in the east on the district Huando .
