The Manta District is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on June 1, 1940. It has an area of ​​159 km². The 2017 census counted 1002 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1593, in 2007 it was 1741. The seat of the district administration is the 3727  m high village of Manta with 252 inhabitants (as of 2017). Manta is located 32 km northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The district of Manta is located in the arid Andean highlands in the central northwest of the province of Huancavelica. The lengthwise extension in north-south direction is 17.5 km, the width is 12 km. The Río Vilca and its right source river Río Santo limit the district in the west.

The district of Manta borders in the southwest with the district Acobambilla , in the northwest with the district Vilca , in the extreme north with the district Moya , in the northeast with the district Laria and in the southeast and in the south with the district Nuevo Occoro .
