The Vilca district is located in the Huancavelica Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was founded on September 15, 1920. It has an area of ​​309 km². In the 2017 census, 1998 inhabitants were counted. In 1993 the population was 3305, in 2007 it was 3186. The seat of the district administration is the 3275  m high village of Vilca with 181 inhabitants (as of 2017). Vilca is located 41 km north-northwest of the provincial and regional capital Huancavelica .

Geographical location

The Vilca district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the northwest of the Huancavelica province. The Río Vilca and its right source river Río Anta drain the area in a north-northeast direction to the Río Mantaro .

The district of Vilca borders in the south with the district Acobambilla , in the west and in the northwest with the districts Chongos Alto and Chacapampa (both in the province Huancayo ), in the north with the district Huayllahuara , in the east with the district Moya and in the southeast with the district Manta .
