The Huaytará Province is one of seven provinces in the Huancavelica region in southwest Peru . The province has an area of 6458 km². At the 2017 census, 18,390 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 23,319, in 2007 23,274. The provincial administration is located in the small town of Huaytará .
Geographical location
The province of Huaytará is located about 270 km southeast of the state capital Lima . It stretches across the Peruvian western cordillera and has a lengthwise extension in SW-NE direction of 115 km. The Río Pisco , Río Ica and Río Grande drain the area to the Pacific Ocean .
The province of Huaytará borders in the northwest on the province of Castrovirreyna , in the north on the provinces Huancavelica and Angaraes , in the east on the provinces Huamanga , Cangallo , Víctor Fajardo , Huanca Sancos and Lucanas (all five in the Ayacucho region ) and in the south on the provinces Palpa and Ica and in the west to the Pisco (all three in the Ica region ).
Administrative division
The province of Huaytará is divided into 16 districts (distritos) . The Huaytará district is the seat of the provincial administration.
