The Ayaví district is located in the Huaytará province in the Huancavelica region in south- central Peru . The district was established on January 22, 1941. It has an area of 180 km². The 2017 census counted 805 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1236, in 2007 it was 817. The district administration is based in the 3758 m high village of Ayaví with 301 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ayaví is located 11 km south of the provincial capital Huaytará .
Geographical location
The Ayaví district is located in the western Peruvian Cordillera in the west of the Huaytará province. The Río Tambo and Río Ica flow west along the southern district boundary.
The Ayaví district is bordered to the west and the north by the district Huaytará , in the northeast on the district Tambo , in the southeast of the district of Santo Domingo de Capillas and the south by the de Santiago district Chocorvos .
