The Querco district is located in the Huaytará province in the Huancavelica region in south- central Peru . The district was established on January 5, 1945. It has an area of ​​686 km². The 2017 census counted 1094 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 541, in 2007 it was 840. The district administration is located in the 2858  m high village of Querco with 702 inhabitants (as of 2017). Querco is 58 km southeast of the provincial capital Huaytará .

Geographical location

The Querco district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the Huaytará province. The Río Grande flows west along the southern district boundary. Its right tributary Río Querco drains the north and east of the district area.

The Querco district is bordered by the Santiago de Quirahuara and Ocoyo districts to the south, the Laramarca district to the west, the Santiago de Chocorvos district to the northwest, the Pilpichaca district to the north and the Sancos district ( Huanca Sancos province ) to the east .
