The Pilpichaca district is located in the Huaytará province in the Huancavelica region in south- central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 2180 km². The 2017 census counted 2975 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3244, in 2007 it was 3743. The seat of the district administration is the 4092 m high village of Pilpichaca with 777 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pilpichaca is 50 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huaytará .
Geographical location
The Pilpichaca district is located in the west of the Andean highlands and extends over the northeast of the Huaytará province. The extreme northeast lies in the catchment area of the Río Cachi . The outflow-regulated lake Laguna Choclococha is located on the northern district boundary . From this the Río Pampas flows in a southeastern direction and drains a large part of the district. To the west of the Laguna Choclococha lies the lake Laguna Orcococha , to the east the 5291 m high Cerro Palomo rises . The west belongs to the catchment area of the Río Pisco .
The Pilpichaca district borders in the extreme south on the Querco district , in the west on the districts Santiago de Chocorvos , Santo Domingo de Capillas , Tambo and San Antonio de Cusicancha , in the northwest on the districts Castrovirreyna and Santa Ana (both in the province of Castrovirreyna ), in the central north to the district of Huachocolpa ( province of Huancavelica ), in the northeast to the districts of Lircay ( province of Angaraes ) and district of Vinchos ( province of Huamanga ), in the east to the districts of Paras ( province of Cangallo ), Vilcanchos ( province of Víctor Fajardo ) and in the extreme Southeast to the districts of Santiago de Lucanamarca and Sancos (both in the province of Huanca Sancos ),
