The Santa Ana district is located in the Castrovirreyna Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district founded on January 8, 1965 has an area of 644 km². At the 2017 census, there were 944 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1815, in 2007 it was 1983. The district administration is located in the 4473 m high town of Santa Ana with 192 inhabitants. Santa Ana is located 30 km northeast of the provincial capital Castrovirreyna .
Geographical location
The Santa Ana district is located in the far east of the Castrovirreyna province. The district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The continental divide runs through the district. The north-eastern part is drained via the Río Ichu to the Río Mantaro . On the southern border of the district lie the lakes Laguna Orcococha and Laguna Choclococha in the headwaters of the Río Pampas , which, like the Río Mantaro, is a tributary of the Río Apurímac . The central part of the district is drained westward to the Pacific Ocean by the Río Santa Ana, Río Chiris and Río Pisco .
The Santa Ana district is bordered to the west by the district Castrovirreyna , on the north by the district of Huancavelica ( province of Huancavelica ), to the east by the district Huachocolpa (also in the province of Huancavelica), and on the south by the district Pilpichaca ( province Huaytará ).
