The Cocas district is located in the Castrovirreyna province in the Huancavelica region in south-west central Peru . The district was established on January 18, 1926. It has an area of ​​81 km². The 2017 census counted 751 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 972, in 2007 it was 948. The seat of the district administration is the 3246  m high village of Cocas with 153 inhabitants. Cocas is located 6 km west of the provincial capital Castrovirreyna .

Geographical location

The Cocas district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south-central part of the Castrovirreyna province. The district is located on the east bank of the south-flowing Río Chiris, the right source river of the Río Pisco .

The Cocas district is bordered on the southwest by the district Ticrapo , the west by the district Mollepampa and to the north and the east by the district Castrovirreyna .
