The Huachos District is located in the Castrovirreyna Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 175 km². The 2017 census counted 984 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1885, in 2007 it was 1774. The seat of the district administration is the 2737 m high village of Huachos with 236 inhabitants. Huachos is located 24 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Castrovirreyna .
Geographical location
The district of Huachos is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera, centrally in the province of Castrovirreyna. The Río Huachos crosses the district in a westerly direction and flows into the Río San Juan in the far west of the district (also Río Tantara in the upper reaches).
The district of Huachos borders in the southwest on the district Capillas , in the northwest on the district Arma , in the extreme northeast on the district Castrovirreyna and in the east and southeast on the district Mollepampa .
