The Lircay district is located in the Angaraes province in the Huancavelica region in south-western central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​826 km². The 2017 census counted 24,722 residents. In 1993 the population was 20,045, in 2007 it was 24,614. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Lircay, which is 3278  m high .

Geographical location

The Lircay district is located in the southwest of the Angaraes province, about 35 km southeast of the regional capital, Huancavelica . The district is located in the arid Andean highlands . The river Río Urubamba (in parts also Río Lircay ), a tributary of the Río Cachi , flows through the district.

The district of Lircay borders in the north on the districts of Ccochaccasa , Anchonga and Huayllay Grande , in the east on the districts Huanca-Huanca , Secclla and Santo Tomás de Pata , in the southeast on the Vinchos district ( Huamanga province in the Ayacucho region ), in the southwest the Pilpichaca district ( Huaytará province ) and in the west to the Huachocolpa district ( Huancavelica province ).
