The Huayllay Grande district is located in the Angaraes Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on February 28, 1941. It has an area of ​​31.8 km². The 2017 census counted 1150 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1454, in 2007 it was 2007. The district administration is located in the 3625  m high village of Huayllay Grande with 1051 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayllay Grande is 6 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Lircay .

Geographical location

The district of Huayllay Grande is located in the arid Andean highlands north-central in the province of Angaraes. The district is located on the right bank of the northeast flowing Río Urubamba .

The Huayllay Grande district borders on the Lircay district to the south, the Anchonga district in the west, the Anta district ( Acobamba province ) in the northwest, the Callanmarca district in the northeast and the Huanca-Huanca district in the east .
