The Julcamarca district is located in the Angaraes province in the Huancavelica region in south-western central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of ​​51.2 km². The 2017 census counted 1,800 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1317, in 2007 it was 1658. The seat of the district administration is the 3418  m high village of Julcamarca with 1126 inhabitants (as of 2017). Julcamarca is located 30 km east of the provincial capital Lircay .

Geographical location

The Julcamarca district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the northeast of the Angaraes province. The Río Huarancayoc, right tributary of the Río Urubamba , borders the district in the west. In the north, the district extends to the south bank of the Río Urubamba flowing to the east. At the eastern border of the district, the Río Cachi flows northeast.

The Julcamarca district is bordered to the south by the district of San Antonio de Antaparco , in the southwest of the district Secclla , the west by the district Congalla in the far north to the district Marcas ( province Acobamba ), in the northeast on the district Chincho and on the east by the district of Santiago de Pischa ( province of Huamanga ).
