The Chincho District is located in the Angaraes Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on October 31, 1959. It has an area of ​​174 km². The 2017 census counted 994 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 1322. The district administration is seated in the 3134  m high village of Chincho with 81 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chincho is just 39 km east of the provincial capital Lircay .

Geographical location

The Chincho district is located in the arid Andean highlands in the far east of the Angaraes province. The area is bordered in the south and east by the Río Cachi and in the north by the Río Urubamba .

The Chincho district is bordered to the west by the district Julcamarca , on the north by the district Marcas ( province Acobamba ), to the east by the districts Luricocha , Huanta and Iguaín (all three in the province of Huanta ), in the southeast of the district Pacaycasa and in the south to the districts of San José de Ticllas and Santiago de Pischa (the last three districts mentioned belong to the province of Huamanga ).
