The Night Before ( German  mutatis mutandis: "The night before" ) is a song by British band The Beatles , the 1965 on their fifth studio album Help! has been published. It was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and published under the author's name Lennon / McCartney .

The Night Before is mainly based on the musical ideas of Paul McCartney. McCartney wrote the song mostly in the childhood home of his girlfriend at the time, Jane Asher , on Wimpole Street, London.

In the film Help! the Beatles play the song The Night Before , guarded by the British Army, in Salisbury Plain in an outdoor area.

The Night Before was not included in the group's live repertoire in 1965.

The Night Before was recorded on February 17, 1965 in London's Abbey Road Studios (Studio 2) with producer George Martin . Norman Smith was the sound engineer for the recordings. The band recorded a total of two takes , with the 2nd take being used for the final version. The recordings were made between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., then the song You Like Me Too Much was played between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The song was mixed on February 18, 1965 in mono and on February 23, 1965 in stereo .

On February 26th, 1987 the album Help! on CD in Europe (USA: July 21, 1987), in a digital new stereo mix made by George Martin in 1986.

In the US, The Night Before was featured on their tenth album Help! published on August 13, 1965.

On November 15, 1965, the single The Night Before / Another Girl was released in Japan .

The Beatles recorded another version of The Night Before for BBC Radio on May 26, 1965, at No.1 Studio, Picadilly Theater , London, under live conditions . This version has so far only been published on bootlegs . The last recordings for the BBC were recorded on May 26, 1965.
