The district of Anchonga is located in the Angaraes province in the Huancavelica region in south-western central Peru . The district was established on January 5, 1945. It has an area of ​​75.4 km². The 2017 census counted 7,456 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5573, in 2007 it was 7487. The district administration is located in the 3298  m high village of Anchonga with 275 inhabitants (as of 2017). Anchonga is located 9.5 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Lircay .

Geographical location

The district of Anchonga is located in the arid Andean highlands in the north of the Angaraes province. The river Río Urubamba flows along the southeastern district boundary to the northeast and drains the area. Its left tributary Río Huayanay runs along the northwestern district boundary to the northeast.

The district of Anchonga borders in the southwest with the district Ccochaccasa , in the northwest with the district Yauli ( province Huancavelica ), in the north and northeast with the district Anta ( province Acobamba ) and in the southeast with the districts Huayllay Grande and Lircay .
