The Anta district is located in the Acobamba province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district founded on January 15, 1943 has an area of 91.9 km². At the 2017 census, 4,936 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 5920, in 2007 it was 8253. The district administration is located in the 3600 m high village of Anta with 219 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Anta district is located in the southwest of the Acobamba province, 8 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Acobamba . The district is located in the arid Andean highlands . The Río Urubamba , a tributary of the Río Cachi , drains the area.
The Anta district borders in the northwest with the Paucará district , in the northeast with the Rosario district , in the east with the Acobamba district , in the south with the districts Callanmarca , Huayllay Grande and Anchonga (all three in the Angaraes province ) and in the southwest with the district Yauli ( Huancavelica Province ).
