The Acobamba District is located in the Acobamba Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 15, 1943. It has an area of ​​123 km². At the 2017 census, 8,980 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 8573, in 2007 it was 9853. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Acobamba, 2940  m high, with 5431 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Acobamba District is centrally located in the Acobamba Province. The district is located in the arid Andean highlands . The capital Acobamba is 44 km east-southeast of the regional capital Huancavelica . The Río Mantaro flows along the northeastern district boundary to the southeast, the Río Urubamba , a tributary of the Río Cachi , also flows southeast along the southern district boundary. The rivers of Río Huancapara and Río Pariahuanca form the western and eastern district boundaries in the south.

The Acobamba district borders in the northeast on the districts of El Carmen and Locroja (both in the province of Churcampa ), in the east on the districts of Caja and Pomacocha , in the south on the districts of Congalla , Huanca Huanca and Callanmarca (all three in the province of Angaraes ), to the west to the Anta and to the northwest to the Rosario district .
