The Locroja district is located in the Churcampa Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 21, 1875. It has an area of 80.6 km². The 2017 census counted 3519 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4826, in 2007 it was 4439. The seat of the district administration is the 3379 m high village of Locroja with 979 inhabitants. Locroja is located 6 km west of the provincial capital Churcampa .
Geographical location
The Locroja district is south-central in the Churcampa province on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Mantaro flows east along the southern district boundary.
The Locroja district is bordered to the west by the district of El Carmen , in the extreme northwest of the district Paucarbamba , on the north by the district of San Pedro de Coris , on the east by the district Churcampa , on the southeast by the de district San Miguel Mayocc and on the south by the districts of Marcas , Caja and Acobamba (all three in the province of Acobamba ).
