The Cosme district is located in the Churcampa Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was formed on June 7, 2010 from parts of the Anco district. It has an area of ​​106 km². The 2017 census counted 3,084 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3465  m high village of Santa Clara de Cosme with 975 inhabitants. Santa Clara de Cosme is located 35 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Churcampa .

Geographical location

The Cosme district is located in the far west of the Churcampa province on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Mantaro , which flows to the south-east, limits the district to the west and south-west.

The Anco district borders in the west on the Acoria district ( Huancavelica province ), in the northwest on the Quichuas district ( Tayacaja province ), in the northeast on the Chinchihuasi and Paucarbamba districts , in the east on the Anco district and in the southwest on the Andabamba district ( province Acobamba ).
