The El Carmen district is located in the Churcampa Province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on June 10, 1955. It has an area of ​​76 km². The 2017 census counted 2548 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3032, in 2007 it was 3102. The seat of the district administration is the 3114  m high village of Paucarbambilla with 182 inhabitants. Paucarbambilla is located 10 km west of the provincial capital Churcampa .

Geographical location

The El Carmen district is south-central in the Churcampa province on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Mantaro , which flows to the southeast, limits the district in the southwest.

The El Carmen district is bordered to the west by the district Anco , on the north by the district Paucarbamba , the east and the southeast by the district Locroja and in the southwest to the districts Acobamba and Rosario (both in the province Acobamba ).
