The Chinchihuasi district is located in the Churcampa province in the Huancavelica region in southwest central Peru . The district was established on January 11, 1962. It has an area of 165 km². The 2017 census counted 2078 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3391, in 2007 it was 4378. The district administration is located in the 2800 m high village of Chinchihuasi with 335 inhabitants. Chinchihuasi is located 30 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Churcampa .
Geographical location
The Chinchihuasi district is located in the far north of the Churcampa province on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The longitudinal extension in north-south direction is 20 km, the maximum width 13 km. The Río Mantaro flows along the northeastern district boundary to the northwest.
The Chinchihuasi district is bordered to the southeast by the district Pacha Marca , the south by the district Paucarbamba , on the southwest by the District Cosme , in the west and the north by the districts Quichuas and Colcabamba and Andaymarca (all three in the province Tayacaja ) and the northeast the Pucacolpa district ( Huanta province ).
