The district of Anco is located in the province of Churcampa in the region of Huancavelica in southwest central Peru . The district was established on June 10, 1955. On June 7, 2010, the north-west of the district was detached and has since formed the newly established Cosme district .

The district of Anco has an area of ​​150 km². The 2017 census counted 5775 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 2404  m high village of La Esmeralda with 1145 inhabitants. La Esmeralda is located 22 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Churcampa .

Geographical location

The district of Anco is located in the southwest of the province of Churcampa on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Mantaro , which flows to the southeast, limits the district in the southwest.

The district of Anco borders in the northwest with the district Cosme, in the northeast with the district Paucarbamba , in the southeast with the district El Carmen and in the southwest with the districts Rosario and Andabamba (both in the province Acobamba ).
