The district of Santiago de Lucanamarca is located in the province of Huanca Sancos in the Ayacucho region in south- central Peru . The district was established on January 29, 1965. It has an area of 646 km². The 2017 census counted 2181 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2529, in 2007 it was 2675. The district administration is located in the 3489 m high village of Santiago de Lucanamarca with 544 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santiago de Lucanamarca is located 9.5 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Huanca Sancos .
Geographical location
The district of Santiago de Lucanamarca is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Huanca Sancos. The area is drained to the north towards the Río Pampas .
The district of Santiago de Lucanamarca borders in the south with the district Sancos , in the extreme west with the district Pilpichaca ( province Huaytará ), in the north with the districts Vilcanchos and Sarhua (both in the province Víctor Fajardo ) and in the extreme southeast with the district Carapo .
