The province of Víctor Fajardo is part of the Ayacucho administrative region in southwestern Peru . The province was named after Víctor Fajardo (1838–1880), a colonel during the Saltpeter War. It has an area of 2862 km². The 2017 census counted 20,109 inhabitants in the province. In 2007 the population was 25,412. The administrative seat is in Huancapi .
Geographical location
The province of Víctor Fajardo is in the west of the Ayacucho region. It extends over the Andean highlands and extends in the west to the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The province has a longitudinal extent in east-west direction of about 125 km and an average width of about 13 km. The Río Pampas runs along the northern and northeastern provincial borders. The Río Sondondo , right tributary of the Río Pampas, forms the eastern boundary of the province. The Río Caracha flows through the province in the middle in a northerly direction.
The province of Víctor Fajardo borders on the province of Cangallo to the north, the provinces of Vilcas Huamán and Sucre to the east and the provinces of Lucanas and Huanca Sancos to the south . To the west lies the province of Huaytará ( Huancavelica region ).

The province of Víctor Fajardo consists of 12 districts. The Huancapi district is the seat of the provincial administration.
