The Alcamenca district is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 9, 1936. It has an area of 116 km². The 2017 census counted 1583 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2460, in 2007 it was 2551. The seat of the district administration is the 3200 m high village of Alcamenca with 312 inhabitants (as of 2017). Alcamenca is about 14 km northwest of the provincial capital Huancapi .
Geographical location
The Alcamenca district is located in the Andean highlands in the central north of the Víctor Fajardo province. The Río Pampas flows east along the northern district boundary.
The Alcamenca district borders in the southwest and in the west with the district Huamanquiquia , in the north with the districts Chuschi , María Parado de Bellido and Cangallo (all three in the province Cangallo ), in the extreme east with the district Huancapi and in the southeast with the district Huancaraylla .
