The Asquipata District is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on December 23, 1986. It has an area of ​​71.4 km². The 2017 census counted 483 residents. In 1993 the population was 503, in 2007 it was 488. The seat of the district administration is the 3350  m high village of Asquipata with 159 inhabitants (as of 2017). Asquipata is located 38 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Huancapi .

Geographical location

The Asquipata district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme southeast of the Víctor Fajardo province. The Río Sondondo , the right tributary of the Río Pampas , flows north along the eastern district boundary and drains the area.

The Asquipata district borders on the Apongo district to the west and north and the Morcolla district ( Sucre province ) to the east and south .
