The Canaria District is located in the Víctor Fajardo Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 265 km². In the 2017 census, 4013 inhabitants were counted. In 1993 the population was 3553, in 2007 4021. The seat of the district administration is the 3025 m high village Canaria with 657 inhabitants (as of 2017). Canaria is located about 25 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Huancapi .
Geographical location
The Canaria district is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the Víctor Fajardo province. The Río Pampas and its right tributary Río Sondondo limit the district in the east.
The Canaria district borders in the south on the Apongo district , in the southwest on the Aucara district ( Lucanas province ), in the west on the Sacsamarca district ( Huanca Sancos province ), in the northwest on the Huancapi district , in the north on the Hualla district , in the northeast to the District of Independencia ( Province of Vilcas Huamán ) and to the east to the District of Querobamba ( Province of Sucre ).
