Johann Nepomuk Wirz von Rudenz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Nepomuk Wirz von Rudenz also called Johann Nepomuk Wirz à Rudenz (born April 24, 1766 in Arbon , † November 5, 1841 in Wil ) was a Swiss politician, imperial bailiff and delegate of the Diet.

Life

In 1795, Wirz von Rudenz was ennobled together with his father-in-law Josef Pankraz von Grüebler and was entitled to bear the title of "Baron". From 1796, Wirz von Rudenz was Reichsvogt in Wil and sat on the council of the prince abbot. In 1797 he was the diocese of the prince abbot and from 1798 for the St. Gallen landscape. In 1802 he became the national bag master and envoy of the old landscape. In the newly founded canton of St. Gallen , Wirz von Rudenz was St. Gallen's Grand Councilor from 1808. As a supporter of the last abbot Pankraz Vorster, he advocated the restoration of the abbey abolished in 1805 in 1814 and was therefore sentenced by the canton to a fine of 10,175 guilders. The debt almost ruined him, and it took him until 1837 to pay off the debt in full.

Wirz von Rudenz in Wil

In 1803 the so-called "Baronenhaus" on the "Goldener Boden" in Wiler's old town, which Wirz von Rudenz's father-in-law Josef Pankraz von Grüebler had built in 1793, went to Wirz von Rudenz for lack of male descendants.

In 1810 Wirz von Rudenz bought the Hof zu Wil for 7750 guilders and set up a brewery there.
