The Querobamba district is located in the Sucre Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district has an area of ​​282 km². The 2017 census counted 2,616 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2542, in 2007 it was 2645. The seat of the provincial and district administration is the 3502  m high village Querobamba with 1814 inhabitants (as of 2017). Querobamba is located 103 km south-southeast of the regional capital Ayacucho .

Geographical location

The Querobamba district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the Sucre province. The district is bordered to the southwest, west and northwest by the Río Huancarma, Río Sondondo and Río Pampas .

The district of Querobamba borders in the southwest on the district Morcolla , in the west on the districts Apongo and Canaria (both in the province Víctor Fajardo ), in the northwest on the district Independencia ( province Vilcas Huamán ), in the northeast on the districts Chalcos and Chilcayoc , im East to the district of San Salvador de Quije and to the southeast to the district of Soras .
