The district of Chilcayoc is located in the province of Sucre in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on March 20, 1928. It has an area of ​​29.8 km². The 2017 census counted 515 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 792, in 2007 it was 668. The district administration is located in the 3373  m high village of Chilcayoc with 293 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chilcayoc is located about 19 km northeast of the provincial capital Querobamba .

Geographical location

The district of Chilcayoc is located in the Andean highlands in the northeast of the province of Sucre. The district is bounded in the east by the Río Chicha flowing north .

The district of Chilcayoc borders in the southeast and in the south with the district San Salvador de Quije , in the southwest with the district Querobamba , in the northwest with the district Chalcos and in the east with the districts San Antonio de Cachi and Chiara (both in the province Andahuaylas ).
