Dermot Patrick Doyle (* around 1898 in Dublin ; † unknown) was an Irish football player .

Career

Doyle played in Dublin no later than 1917 for Olympia FC in the Leinster Senior League , in May 1918 he lost with the team in the final of the Irish Junior Cup after a repeat game with 0: 1 against Raglan . In 1920 he joined the reigning All-Ireland Cup winners and city rivals Shelbourne FC . In July 1921 he moved to the Welsh section of the Southern League for FC Pontypridd , while Pontypridd's coach Peter O'Rourke signed Doyle with goalkeeper Walsh, defender Frank McGloughlin and outside runner Watson, four players from Shelbourne, according to the regulations at the time no transfer fee necessary. After he drew the attention of many leading clubs at Pontypridd according to the press with "clever appearances in the Principality ", Percy Lewis , coach of the English second division Hull City , was in the semifinals of the Welsh Cup to the spectators. Although Doyle and Pontypridd lost 2-0 to Cardiff City , Hull signed the left winger shortly afterwards.

On the occasion of his move, the press characterized him as "playing attractive football" and as a "fast right winger [sic!]". Originally he was supposed to play against Leeds United in the Hull Hospital Cup at the end of April , but since he was still registered as a player at Shelbourne, Hull had to negotiate transfer modalities in Ireland, so Doyle first played on the last day of the second division season 1921/22 in the home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers could accrue. He prepared the goal for the 2-0 final score by Thomas Eccles , who also made his debut. In the following season 1922/23 Doyle was on three of the first six game days as a left winger, after the signing of the Scot Alec Thom Doyle was mostly limited to appearances in the reserve team, his last two appearances he made in the spring of 1923 under Lewis' successor Billy McCracken replacing Robert Coverdale in the position of the left outer runner .

In August 1925 he was back at Shelbourne FC, and it was said that he had been "unlucky for the last few seasons" and, in addition to Hull, a temporary stay in Rotherham is mentioned. At Shelbourne, however, only S. Doyle and C. Doyle are found in team lineups.
