The district of San Pedro de Larcay is located in the province of Sucre in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on July 8, 1964. It has an area of ​​314 km². The 2017 census counted 844 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 785, in 2007 it was 970. The seat of the district administration is the 3376  m high village of San Pedro de Larcay with 453 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Pedro de Larcay is located 33 km southeast of the provincial capital Querobamba .

Geographical location

The district of San Pedro de Larcay is located in the Andean highlands in the southeast of the province of Sucre. The Río Chicha (also Río Soras) flows north along the northeastern district boundary. The area is drained via the Río Larcay to the Río Chicha.

The district of San Pedro de Larcay borders in the southwest on the district Chipao ( province Lucanas ), in the west and in the northwest on the district Soras and in the east on the district Pampachiri ( province Andahuaylas ).
