The Belén district is located in the Sucre Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was established on March 3, 1928. It has an area of ​​54.9 km². The 2017 census counted 506 residents. In 1993 the population was 809, in 2007 it was 721. The seat of the district administration is the 3645  m high village of Belén with 286 inhabitants (as of 2017). Belén is located 24 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Querobamba .

Geographical location

The Belén district is located in the Andean highlands in the far north of the Sucre province. The district is bounded in the west and northwest by the northeast flowing Río Pampas , in the east by its tributary Río Chicha flowing north .

The Belén district is bordered to the south by the district Chalcos , the west by the district Accomarca , in the northwest on the district Huambalpa , on the north by the district Carhuanca (the three districts mentioned above are located in the province Vilcas Huamán ) and to the east by the district San Antonio de Cachi ( Andahuaylas Province ).
