The province of Sucre is part of the Ayacucho administrative region in southwestern Peru . The province has an area of 1786 km². The 2017 census counted 9844 inhabitants in the province. In 2007 the population was 12,595, in 1993 12,623. The administrative seat is Querobamba .
Geographical location
The province of Sucre is located in the east of the Ayacucho region. It extends over the Andean highlands . The province has a maximum lengthwise extension in NNW-SSE direction of about 75 km and a maximum width of about 38 km. The Río Pampas and its tributaries Río Sondondo and Río Chicha form the boundaries of the province to the northwest, north and northeast.
The province of Sucre borders in the north on the province Vilcas Huamán , in the east on the province Andahuaylas ( region Apurímac ), in the south on the province Lucanas and in the west on the province Víctor Fajardo .

The province of Sucre consists of 11 districts. The Querobamba district is the seat of the provincial administration.
