The Parinacochas Province is part of the Ayacucho administrative region in southwestern Peru . It has an area of 5968 km². The 2017 census counted 27,659 inhabitants in the province. In 2007 the population was 30,007, in 1993 it was 22,769. The administrative seat is Coracora .
Geographical location
The Parinacochas Province is located in the southwest of the Ayacucho region. The province is located in the catchment area of the Pacific Ocean . It extends over the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The western part of the province is drained by the Río Acarí . In the south, an area is drained by the Río Chala . The northeast of the province is drained via the Río Marán , the right source of the Río Ocoña . In the south of the province, the outflow-free lake Laguna Parinacochas lies at the foot of the Sarasara volcano .
The province of Parinacochas borders in the northwest on the neighboring province of Lucanas , in the northeast on the Apurímac region , in the southeast on the province Páucar del Sara Sara and in the south on the Arequipa region .
