The Pacapausa district is located in the Parinacochas Province in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district emerged in the founding years of the Republic of Peru. It has an area of 147 km². The 2017 census counted 670 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 448, in 2007 it was 1607. The district administration is based in the 2852 m high village of Pacapausa with 333 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pacapausa is 45 km east of the provincial capital Coracora .
Geographical location
The Pacapausa district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the central east of the Parinacochas province. The Río Huanca Huanca, a tributary of the Río Marán , crosses the district in a south-southeast direction.
The Pacapausa district is bordered to the south by the District of San Francisco de Ravacayco , in the northwest on the district Upahuacho , in the northeast on the district Coronel Castañeda and the far east to the district Oyolo ( province Paucar del Sara Sara ).
